What is AVID?
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a global, nonprofit educational initiative designed to close the opportunity gap and prepare students, particularly those underrepresented in higher education, for college and career success. From elementary levels, AVID builds academic habits, focusing on organization, study skills, and self-advocacy, while its elective class in higher grades emphasizes academic support and skills for college readiness. AVID's comprehensive approach includes professional development for educators and a WICOR-based curriculum (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading), encouraging a schoolwide shift towards a more equitable, inquiry-focused, and organized learning environment.
