Class Novel Resources

About this page

"Class Novels" are supplemental reading approved by the Board of Education. This page represents titles identified by NVUSD teachers as currently in use and does not include textbooks or out-of-print titles. The complete list of approved titles may be found here

The number below each book image indicates the grade level(s) for which use has been approved. 

TEACHERS: If the book you wish to use for your class is not on this list, it must be approved by the Board before it is assigned. 

If you wish to suggest a book for approval, please use this form

NOTE: The approval process can take several weeks.

 First time user?

  • Sora delivers seamless access to thousands of ebooks and audiobooks...not just class novels!
  • Whether you use a laptop, ChromeBook, smartphone or tablet—your experience is identical.
  • Automatic downloads guarantee access to checked out titles with or without Internet.
  • There is no need to install anything! The first time you or a student open Sora you will be prompted to add a shortcut to your device home screen. This makes finding content on your device easier and ensures offline access.  

Login Info: 

Student Username = your 6 digit ID ["lunch code"]

Student Password = school abbreviation[example: hms for Harvest Middle School]

How to take and retrieve notes in Sora.

Many of the titles included below have a link to "Resources" which refers to the resource page created by Here you will find links to author interviews, lesson plans, summaries, etc.

If a page does not exist for a title, try the Ebsco resource Literary Reference Center Plus. This research database features information on literary topics, authors, and their works from all genres, disciplines, time periods, and regions of the world. Access is available to students via OneCard.

Hoopla is a resource available to us via the Napa County Library. It includes thousands of ebooks, audiobooks, movies and more.

The first time you use Hoopla you will need to create an account.

You will provide an email address and create a password. This login info can then be used to access your Hoopla titles via any device.

Select Napa County Library (search if necessary).

Login in with your library card, a.k.a. OneCard and PIN.

OneCard= "nvusd+your 6 digit ID number" E.g. "nvusd321456"

PIN= your date of birth [month day year] using 8 digits, no spaces or slashes. (e.g. for May 7, 2006: 05072006) *

Student OneCards will give you access to children's and young adult titles. To gain access to additional titles you will need to use a full service public library card. 

Teachers can assign titles available via Sora to an entire class quickly and easily.

Titles will automatically check out to the students on the date the assignment begins and will automatically return on the date the assignment ends.

When students open the Overdrive/Sora app, the title will appear in their assignments at the top of the screen on "day one."
