Why NVUSD Middle School?
The vision of Napa Valley Unified School District Middle Schools is to provide an inclusive, equitable, responsive, restorative, and rigorous education, where students have a sense of belonging. Students are encouraged to discover who they are and learn to advocate and contribute within a high-quality educational environment. NVUSD supports this vision through research-based core middle school elements, including flexible learning, electives, and athletics.
Open Enrollment
Open Enrollment begins October 15th and ends November 30th. Open enrollment is a process for offering families school choice, where possible. NVUSD will accept applications from NEW out of district families between January 15, 2025 and June 15, 2025. Out of district families who are currently enrolled in NVUSD are welcome to participate in Open Enrollment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if the child I want to enroll is already enrolled at another NVUSD school but wants to transfer?
If they are transferring between NVUSD schools, they must enroll during the open enrollment period of October 15-November 30. Families can submit an open enrollment application by visiting www.nvusd.org/enrolling-in-nvusd.
What if the child I want to enroll does not live within NVUSD’s district boundaries?
Out-of-district students are encouraged to apply through the annual open enrollment process that runs from October 15-November 30. However, applications will be accepted until May 30, 2025. Applications received after May 30, 2025, will not be reviewed until the 10th day of school (2025-2026 academic year).
How can you find out what school is the “resident school” for my child?
Visit www.nvusd.org/enrolling-in-nvusd.
Is transportation provided to open-enrollment students?
Parents/guardians are responsible for providing transportation to open-enrollment schools.
May we change our minds if we accept an open enrollment seat?
An open-enrollment student becomes an official, resident student of the new school. Families may apply to return to resident schools during the next annual open enrollment period or submit an intra-district transfer due to hardship. At NVUSD, we have set teacher-student ratios for optimal learning environments, therefore a student might not be able to return to the resident school when requested.
Are special education students eligible to participate in open enrollment?
Yes, NVUSD values equity, and therefore all families are welcome to complete an open enrollment application. The special education department will work with families to ensure the instructional program offered at the requested school meets the student's needs as prescribed in the Individual Education Plan (IEP). Many special education students will be placed at a particular school based on their IEP, without the need for open enrollment.
Will after-school programs be available for my child?
Yes, there are quality and enriching after-school programs for NVUSD students. Please check in with your resident school to learn more!
