2025 Graduate Joshua Miguel De Leon

NVUSD

Inspired by his older sister, an ACHS alum, Joshua entered high school determined to make the most of every opportunity. He joined choir his freshman year and remained committed all four years, culminating in his senior role in Chamber Choir, the school’s most advanced vocal ensemble. “Choir has been like a family,” he says. “Mr. Butler creates a space where we grow close through music and memories.”

His involvement extended far beyond the classroom. As a four-year team manager for the girls' volleyball program, Joshua took initiative to support the team behind the scenes—including running their Instagram account. A talented digital creator, he used Photoshop to craft content that captured the team’s spirit and achievements. On the court, he played for the boys' volleyball team, joining JV as a sophomore and competing on varsity his junior and senior years. “Volleyball gave me lasting friendships and a sense of community. It means the world to me.”

Academically, Joshua challenged himself with AP and honors courses, earning a 4.2 weighted GPA. Through NVUSD's dual enrollment program, he took five college-level classes at Napa Valley College and performed in a joint concert with the NVC and ACHS Chamber Choirs, backed by a full orchestra. As a Dual Enrollment Ambassador, Joshua helps inform and inspire fellow students to explore college-level coursework.

In February, he shared his experience at the Dual Enrollment Equity Conference in Sacramento, presenting to hundreds of principals and counselors. “It was powerful to know my story could help shape how schools support students like me,” he said.

This fall, Joshua will attend San Diego State University, majoring in kinesiology with an emphasis in pre-physical therapy. A lifelong athlete and sports fan, he hopes to become an athletic trainer. He also plans to try out for SDSU's competitive club volleyball team. “Sports have always been a part of who I am, and I want to keep that going in my career and my life.”

Joshua is especially grateful to his ACHS counselor, Mr. Som, who supported him throughout high school. “He believed in me, helped me choose the right classes, and guided me through college decisions. I don’t know what I would have done without him.”

He also thanks his family for their unwavering support—especially his mom, who never missed a game, no matter how far. “She paid for my college applications, drove hours to see me play, and always encouraged me to go for opportunities, even when I hesitated. I’m so thankful for her love, sacrifice, and belief in me.”

Joshua’s story is one of persistence, creativity, and heart. He leaves ACHS as a leader, a role model, and a proud product of NVUSD.

Congratulations, Joshua! We can’t wait to see what you do next.
