A Cultural Celebration: Napa High Honors Día de los Muertos

Napa High School's International Spanish Academy (ISA) Club brought the vibrant spirit of Día de los Muertos to life. The club organized a festive lunchtime event featuring face painting, live performances, and a display of colorful “alebrijes” or spirit animals. These “alebrijes” were later displayed at the Napa Día de los Muertos celebration alongside Ofrendas from Unidos Middle School. As ISA Club co-president Alina explained, "The event is sponsored by the ISA Club, we’re all in a dual immersion program, which means that we have been learning in both English and Spanish since we were in kindergarten, and a really big part of being bilingual  is also having a cross-cultural understanding of of Latin American countries as well as the American culture. And so, we’re here celebrating Day of the Dead to honor, you know, where the language comes from and the traditions that come with it." By organizing this event and contributing to the citywide celebration, the ISA Club demonstrated its commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and enriching the school community.
