Modernization Project at Alta Heights Elementary Benefits Students and Teachers
The Napa Valley Unified School District unveiled its Alta Heights Elementary School Modernization Project during its Special Board Meeting on September 4, 2024. The project focused on updating areas most utilized by students and staff for learning. Classrooms and hallways received fresh coats of paint, new flooring, repaired cabinetry and storage spaces, new lighting, and student-and-teacher-friendly furniture. Exterior projects included a new irrigation system and sod for the school’s main field and repaving of the parking lot.
According to NVUSD Chief Business Official Rob Mangewala, “This modernization project exemplifies the type of improvements NVUSD aims to implement across all its aging Napa school facilities in the short and long term. Completing this work to scale across all our schools that need it will take time. We are ready and committed to providing students, staff, and families with the quality learning facilities they deserve.”
“This project aligns with NVUSD’s focus on improving and maintaining facilities, one of fifteen long-term goals identified by NVUSD staff, students, families, and local community members during a year-long strategic visioning and planning process last year,” shared NVUSD Superintendent Dr. Rosanna Mucetti. As part of that commitment, NVUSD will work to ensure that all schools in Napa are provided with interior and exterior modernization, if needed, as funding is available.
Improvements are already underway at American Canyon schools, thanks to funding from Measure A2. New outdoor learning spaces will be completed later this month at Canyon Oaks Elementary School and a fresh coat of exterior paint has refreshed the buildings on American Canyon High School’s campus. Additional smaller-scale projects are also improving sites at Donaldson Way Elementary School, Napa Junction Elementary School, and American Canyon Middle School.
Students and parents shared their excitement about the Alta Heights modernization project during the Special Board Meeting and through this informational video. This project exemplifies the type of progress that NVUSD believes will advance its strategic vision and plan today and into the future. It is all part of ensuring that NVUSD realizes its vision of supporting students to become confident, compassionate, and adaptable adults who are well-prepared for life and become inspiring advocates for themselves and their community.
