December 12, 2025 – The Napa Valley Unified School District (NVUSD) marked a major milestone in its Measure B bond program today, officially beginning the demolition of the D-Wing portable classrooms (D1–D11) at Napa High School (NHS). The removal of these decades-old structures is the first visible step in Phase Two of the comprehensive district-wide modernization effort, made possible by Measure B. These improvements will help ensure a safer and more welcoming learning environment for students and staff.

Principal Ean Ainsworth shared, “Although countless moments of learning, growth, and connection happened inside these walls, it’s time to send these buildings off into the sunset. This demolition, which will be completed by the end of Winter Break, will create more open space for our students and signals the start of greater improvements coming to Napa High, thanks to Measure B.”

Principal Ainsworth also highlighted recent academic successes at the school, including improvements in state assessment scores, increased reclassification rates for multilingual learners, and being named a California School Boards Association Golden Bell Recipient for its dual language immersion program.

Superintendent Dr. Rosanna Mucetti emphasized that the facilities upgrade directly supports the district’s new 2024-2029 Strategic Plan. “This truly is not an ending—it’s a beginning for a new phase at Napa High,” said Dr. Mucetti. “The removal of these portables, which were installed in 1989 and are well past their lifespan, directly supports our Strategic Goal #5 (modernizing facilities) and Strategic Goal #14 (student health and wellness). Our commitment is to ensure our facilities are safe, welcoming, and ready for student learning and success now and for years to come.”

The current demolition serves as a powerful kickoff for Phase Two of the Measure B Bond Program. This critical phase will deliver an exterior infrastructure transformation to NVUSD’s secondary schools that need it, starting this upcoming summer. Planned projects at Napa High School, Vintage High School, Valley Oak High School, and Redwood Middle School include installing completely new HVAC systems, new roofing on permanent structures, and new exterior paint.

“We thank our voters for approving Measure B, which makes this vital work possible,” Dr. Mucetti added. She also acknowledged the leadership of Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operational Services Rob Mangewala and the implementation team, including Van Pelt Construction Services, for executing the bond program across the district.

Trustee Cindy Watter, who previously taught in the D-Wing at Napa High, also offered remarks, sharing a personal connection to the retiring facility and underscoring the importance of upgrading the learning environment for future generations.
