Shape the Future of NVUSD: Share Your Insights at Our January Community Engagement Sessions

Click here to watch the video in Spanish.

Provide your input on NVUSD’s Strategic Vision! NVUSD will host a variety of sessions between January 8 - 21 for parents, students, staff, and other community members. At these events, we will share prototypes of the Graduate Portrait, Adult Portrait, and System Portrait and ask the community for feedback once again. These drafts were created collaboratively by the NVUSD Strategic Vision Guiding Coalition after reviewing thousands of inputs from the community, learning from other initiatives and examples around the world, and researching the needs of people and the workplace in the future. Inputs from the community were collected through a variety of methods, including:

  • Inputs from over 300 students who attended the Student Summit

  • NVUSD parent, teacher, and special education committee meetings

  • Five meetings at NVUSD’s Family Resource Centers

  • Two large-scale Community-wide Open Houses

  • NVUSD staff meetings

  • Our online survey and more

The January Community Engagement Sessions will be best experienced in person as we ask our community to provide feedback and prioritize the draft elements of the Graduate, Adult, and System Portraits. If you are interested in participating in person or virtually, please  click here for dates and locations. We hope to see you as we reimagine the future of NVUSD!

Four Strategies for Boosting Your Student's Star Test Performance

The second Star Assessments  window opens next week, Wednesday, January 10 for elementary, middle, and high school students and closes on Tuesday, January 23. There are several ways you can help your student do well:

  1. Encourage your student to do their best. By making their best effort on the Renaissance STAR reading and math tests, a student can better understand their strengths and weaknesses and identify areas where they may need additional support to grow as a learner and achieve their academic goals.

  2. Look for communication from your school for specific testing dates.

  3. Make sure students get plenty of rest the night before their test.

  4. Make sure students eat a good breakfast the morning of.  Thanks to NOSH, all students have access to free breakfast and lunch at school. So this might be one you can take off your list. If you’d like to know more about our free breakfast and lunch program,  visit our NOSH website.

Video Tours Highlighting New School  Website Navigation

Click here to watch the video in Spanish.

In the middle of April last year, we faced a sudden challenge when our old website provider announced its closure. This announcement left us with a tight deadline of July 1, 2023, to transition to a new provider. This task, typically a year-long process, involved rebuilding the district website and each of our 26 school sites. Hoping to minimize disruptions, we prioritized making the most essential information available.

Over the winter break, we made significant updates to our school site navigation. While there's still more to do, these improvements aim to streamline your experience. To help you learn about the new navigation, we invite all families to explore our school site video tour. This video highlights the updated navigation options. We hope these changes make it easier to find the information and resources most relevant to you.

As you watch the videos below, keep in mind that our school websites feature uniform navigation links. We did this to create a familiar user experience regardless of the school your student currently attends. So, even if you don't see your student's specific school in the video tour, the updates apply to each of the 26 schools.
