Save the Date for Coffee with the Superintendent

This March and April, Superintendent Dr. Rosanna Mucetti is hosting two in-person meetings from 9:00 to 10:00 am with parents. The first will be held at Vintage High School on Tuesday, March 5,  and the second meeting will take place at Phillips Elementary School on Tuesday, April 2.  These meetings are open for all to attend. Let us know what you would like to discuss and when you plan to attend by filling out this  Google Form.

Provide Your Feedback on NVUSD’s Draft Vision
 
Thank you to all those who have provided their feedback on NVUSD's draft strategic vision! If you haven't had a chance, it's not too late! Please provide your feedback and thoughts through this survey link (English, Spanish). The survey remains open through January 19. You play an important role in the success of NVUSD and our wonderful students. We are excited to co-design this vision with our community - for all our children. Go NVUSD!

COVID Guidance Has Changed!

On January 9, 2024 the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) updated COVID isolation recommendations. Students no longer need to isolate for five days after they test positive. The recommendation now states,

Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms, until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever reducing medication AND other COVID-19 symptoms are mild and improving.

 

Paper - 24/7 Academic Support for Students
 

We are excited to announce our partnership with Paper, offering all students in grades 6-12, including those at Shearer and BV TK-8, free and unlimited access to 24/7 one-on-one tutoring and writing support. Paper's Educational Support System brings an array of valuable resources, such as:

  • Personalized live-chat tutoring sessions with experts across more than 200 subjects, available in four languages.

  • A variety of engaging educational videos and interactive math games to enhance learning both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Professional reviews of various written works, including essays, creative writing, poetry, and lab reports.

  • Exercises for improving reading fluency and comprehension.

  • And much more!

In January, all NVUSD teachers will receive training to integrate these resources into our school day effectively. However, your student(s) can begin exploring and benefiting from this fantastic resource right now at home through  Clever.

Third Annual Employee of the Year Celebration
 
Join us for our Third Annual "Employee of the Year" celebration! This exciting event is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, at 5:30 pm, and will take place in Evans Auditorium at the Education Center. We eagerly anticipate your presence and the opportunity to celebrate together. For those unable to attend in person, we've got you covered! You can be a part of the festivities by tuning into the  NVUSD YouTube channel or watch the replay on our website. Don't forget to mark this special date on your calendars – we can't wait to see you there!

Board of Education Students of Month

NVUSD’s Board of Education recognizes students each month who have shown exemplary scholarship, citizenship, and school/community service. Students are selected by their school principal and are honored at a public board meeting.

For November and December, American Canyon High School named Mason Gaskins and Paige Gabrielle Rosal as students of the month. Vintage High School named Lily Andrews and Shahub Razavi. Congratulations!

State Standardized Testing Information for Families
 
Between February and May, students will be assessed with a number of state-mandated assessments. Please keep an eye out for communications from your school indicating when these important state assessments will occur. Please encourage your student(s) to do their best! If you have any questions about these assessments,  please contact your school . Below is a list of assessments by grade level. If you would like to know more, you can read about each on our student testing webpage.

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

April-May - students will participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Students will take the following tests based on their grade level.

  • Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts and math are required tests in grades 3–8 and 11. 

  • California Science Test (CAST), a required test in grades 5, 8, and 12.

February-April - Students in grades 5, 7, and 9 will participate in Physical Fitness Testing (PFT)

English Language Proficiency Assessments for California

February-May - All students, K-12, who are Multilingual Learners will take the summative English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). 

 

Announcing Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Parent Learning Series
 
In February, Dr. Lori A. Watson will kick off the first of a two-part, four-session Parent Learning Series on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion with NVUSD Families. You can find updates about the learning series and learn more about our efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion at www.nvusd.org/dei. To learn more about the learning opportunity please contact your school site Parent Liaison.

 

January's Harvest Highlight: Celebrating Roasted Broccoli
The Harvest of the Month for January is all about roasted broccoli, a nutritious and delicious choice for your lunches! Every Thursday, find this fiber-rich, vitamin-packed vegetable at our salad bars. Not only is it a great source of antioxidants, but it's also a tasty addition to your meal. Apply for the Healthy School Food Pathway Program
 
Are you interested in exploring a stable career path that has an impact on your community and is centered on healthy food for kids?  Then look no further than school food and the Healthy School Food Pathway program. This program gives California Community College students, school food operators, and displaced workers an exciting opportunity to receive education and paid hands-on experience in operating healthy K-12 school meal programs! The program lasts 7 weeks and includes: 4 School Food Institute courses: 20 hours (4 hours pre-read, 4 hours homework, 12 hours online learning); 2 virtual learning sessions: 3 hours (2 sessions, 1.5 hours each); On-the-job learning: 84 hours (12 hours a week). Pre-Apprentices will be paid $16/hr for on-the-job learning.* Additionally, college credits may be available.**  Apply online here Application Deadline is February 12, 202.

 

 

Password Changes Required for All Secondary Students

To enhance security, all secondary students will now be required to update their passwords every 180 days. When this change is due, students will receive a prompt during their login to Rapid Identity, initiating the password update process. This will only take a few minutes to complete.

Please note, it is mandatory to select a new password that is different from any previously used passwords. For guidance on how to change your password and set up your security/challenge questions, please follow  these instructions . Your cooperation in maintaining the security of our systems is greatly appreciated!
