NVUSD Student Advisory Council to Shape Education and Student Experience

NVUSD

Students and staff engage at the October 2023 student advisory council meeting

The NVUSD Student Advisory Council consists of students from each NVUSD high school. By design, they represent a wide variety of student perspectives. Students serve on the NVUSD Student Advisory Council for a two-year term. The intended outcomes are:
  • Increase students’ role in the development of LCAP goals and actions

  • Understand the basics of District funding

  • Create and put in place options to improve the student learning experience. These council will base the options on the NVUSD the 2022-2023 identified areas of growth

  • Empower students to have a voice in their educational experience

The NVUSD Student Advisory Council started during the 2022-2023 school year. During the 2022-2023 school year, the NVUSD Student Advisory Council identified areas of growth. They identified these areas based on LCAP data and student focus group feedback. This year, the NVUSD Student Advisory Council will deepen their work and strengthen their impact. To do so they will create and put in place options that address the identified areas of growth.

The NVUSD Students Advisory Council launched the first meeting of the year on Thursday, October 26 in the NVUSD Boardroom. The Instructional Support Services Team and High School Principals welcomed back 17 high school students. They also met the 11 new sophomore and junior students who joined this school year. During the first meeting, students from each NVUSD high school learned about their role, process, and the identified areas of growth. Our next step is to narrow our focus to three areas to improve the student experience in NVUSD. The NVUSD Student Advisory Council will meet monthly.
