Middle School College and Career Readiness

Our middle school programs are designed to spark interest in diverse pathways while building the organizational and social-emotional skills needed for high school, college, and beyond.

  • The Elective "Wheel": To help students discover hidden talents and interests, we offer an Elective Wheel where students rotate through various introductory courses, such as STEM, Art, and Music. This hands-on exploration allows students to identify their strengths early in their academic journey.

  • AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination): This globally recognized program provides essential academic support and organizational skills. It fosters a "college-going culture," specifically supporting students who are often the first in their families to attend college through mentorship and the opportunity to visit various college campuses. These trips allow students to envision themselves in a higher education setting and understand the steps needed to get there.

  • Indicators of Student Success (ISS): We believe "future ready" behaviors start in the classroom. Our report cards include feedback on work habits and citizenship, reinforcing the professional behaviors—like punctuality, collaboration, and persistence—required in the modern workplace.

  • County-Wide Career Fair: In collaboration with the Napa County Office of Education, every NVUSD middle school student attends the annual Career Fair at the Napa County Fairgrounds. This event brings students face-to-face with local professionals and industry leaders to explore high-demand careers.

  • Building Belonging: Through programs like WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) student mentoring and dedicated Advisory periods, we ensure that as students prepare for tomorrow, they feel a deep sense of "belonging today."
