Career Exploration
Shearer Elementary School is a place of hope and learning. Embracing diversity, we are a team working toward a common goal with the belief that every child will learn and achieve. Together we prepare self motivated lifelong learners who achieve success as students and members of the larger community.
Shearer TK-8 Magnet School is one of only two TK-8 schools in NVUSD offering another choice for middle years education and creating opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through cross-grade level mentoring and service.
Shearer's specialized magnet program is Career Exploration. Students learn in unique integrated units based on the RIASEC model, a set of career categories that help to determine a student's interests and possible choices for their future. Students from the earliest grades have exposure to many different careers in a variety of fields through guest speakers, field trips, and hands-on learning experiences. As students progress through the grade levels they develop the skills needed to pursue career or college pathways based on their own practical experiences with careers they are learning about. At Shearer we encourage our students to dream big and then work toward achieving their goals.
Shearer is also a Community School where parents are welcome and encouraged to join in conversations and experiences so that the whole family takes part in the learning.
