Staff Spotlight: Cori Claxton

Cori Claxton celebrated her 10th anniversary with NVUSD in February 2026, marking a decade of service dedicated to supporting students and families through the district’s Transportation Department. Her journey into NVUSD began with a job posting she came across on Indeed, an opportunity that led her to a department she now proudly describes as an amazing place to work.

For Cori, transportation is about much more than logistics. "I love knowing that my work helps Special Education students safely access every learning opportunity—from the ride to school to experiences beyond the classroom," she says. That sense of purpose guides her work every day.

What excites Cori most is hearing directly from families about the impact transportation staff have on students’ lives. She especially values the relationships built with Special Needs students and their families. Recently, a family shared how one of NVUSD’s drivers helped their student reach an important milestone, a moment that reinforced the meaningful role transportation staff play in supporting students beyond the ride to and from school.

For Cori, it is those stories, connections, and daily opportunities to make a difference that continue to inspire her work in NVUSD.

What was one of your first jobs that you remember fondly and why?

My first job was working as a Nanny for a family with two elementary-aged children. They were a wonderful family and very kind and supportive of me as a young adult.  

 

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

Spending time with my family and animal rescue. 

 

Tell us about a time you set a challenging goal for yourself and how you accomplished it?

The first time I participated in Walktober! I wanted to "fill my entire tree" with leaves. I partnered with my coworkers, and we created a team to keep us motivated. With my coworkers and family keeping me on track, I was able to accomplish my goal! 

 

What motivates you to do your best?

I want the world to be better off because I'm in it! The smallest kindness you extend can change another person's life. I always strive to do my best personally and professionally to make a positive difference.  

 

What three (3) historical individuals (living or dead) or fictional characters (from books, TV, movies, etc.) would you most like to have dinner with?

 

Queen Elizabeth I, Jane Goodall, Sylvia Plath

 

What is one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I didn't get my driver's license until I was 26!
