Staff Spotlight: Drew Herron
Drew Herron has served NVUSD for 33 years, building a career rooted in connection, service, and support for students and families. His path to Napa began when an old coach encouraged him to apply for a history teaching position at Napa High School. Although he did not get the job, his coach convinced him to move to Napa anyway, believing another opportunity would come along. Just two weeks into the school year, a position opened at Vintage High School, and Drew’s journey with NVUSD began.
While Napa was not originally his hometown, it quickly became home. “I am rooted in this community,” Drew shares. “It has been a great place to live and raise my two kids.” Over more than three decades, he has built deep relationships throughout the district and dedicated himself to helping students navigate challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
Today, Drew’s work focuses on supporting students and families who may be facing difficulties with attendance, behavior, or health. “It is very rewarding to see the growth and resiliency of kids as they turn things around,” he says. That opportunity to help families through difficult moments and see students get back on track is what continues to inspire his work every day.
What was one of your first jobs that you remember fondly and why?
My mom and dad owned a sporting goods business in Ventura, California. I would work summers and weekends in the retail part of the store. I played a lot of sports and would have the latest shoes and sports equipment. They were usually free because my dad would get samples in my size. I wish I would have held on to my baby blue and black Air Jordans.
What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
I love taking my daughter surfing and going boogie boarding with her. I can't get enough of the beach. This year I made a Christmas tree out of driftwood.
What motivates you to do your best?
Knowing that how I interact with the people who walk through my door can make them feel a little bit better or know there is hope in their future.
What three (3) historical individuals (living or dead) or fictional characters (from books, TV, movies, etc.) would you most like to have dinner with?
Jerry Seinfeld, Guy Fieri and Buster Posey
What is one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I am very creative. I have done some things with photography and made some decorations from things from the beach.

Equity and Access for our Students, Staff and Families; A big part of my job is to help families navigate our systems. Sometimes they are not sure what questions to ask. During a lot of my meetings with students and families we are trying to get them the support they need to be successful and ultimately graduate from high school.
