Staff Spotlight: Sarah Wolfe

Sarah Wolfe is in her 11th year teaching in NVUSD and has built her career at American Canyon Middle School. Her journey began when she started subbing in the district and accepted a long term substitute position at ACMS. That opportunity soon led to an opening to teach 8th grade English language arts, and she has been part of the school community ever since. Sarah says the strong sense of community in American Canyon and the colleagues she works alongside each day have made ACMS a place she is proud to call home.

Sarah is also a product of NVUSD schools. She attended Yountville Elementary School, Redwood Middle School, and Vintage High School. Returning to work in the same district where she grew up has made her connection to the community even stronger.

For Sarah, the most rewarding part of teaching is watching students develop throughout the year. As she explains, “What excites me most about my job is the positive interactions with students, seeing their growth throughout the year, and those ‘ah-ha’ moments when everything finally clicks.”

What was one of your first jobs that you remember fondly and why?

One of my first jobs that I remember fondly is my job as a lifeguard at the Veterans Home Pool in Yountville. I have fond memories at that job because of the strong community and working at a place I spent my summers growing up. 

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

A favorite hobby of mine for the past year has been pilates.

 

Tell us about a time you set a challenging goal for yourself and how you accomplished it?

Last year, my ELA team and I set a goal to increase our test scores. We accomplished this by implementing new strategies. These strategies and trying new things helped increase my students test scores. 

 

What motivates you to do your best?

What motivates me to do my best is seeing my students succeed and helping them see their potential. 

 

What three (3) historical individuals (living or dead) or fictional characters (from books, TV, movies, etc.) would you most like to have dinner with?

Three historical individuals I would most like to have dinner with is President Obama, Adam Sandler, and Steph Curry.

 

What is one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

One thing people might be surprised to learn about me is that I am a pseudo travel agent. I plan and organize annual trips overseas..
