The Arts at NVUSD: Cultivating Agency and Identity
The Napa Valley Unified School District believes that both the visual and performing arts are essential to developing a Healthy Identity and a sense of Agency in every student. As part of our Vision 2040 commitment, our arts programs provide a pathway for students to discover their unique talents and develop the cognitive flexibility required for success in a rapidly changing world.
Through rigorous instruction in the musical and visual arts, students cultivate self-discipline, exercise social responsibility, and refine their ability to communicate complex ideas. Research confirms that students engaged in the arts demonstrate higher levels of engagement and academic persistence. By beginning this journey in elementary school and continuing through our robust high school programs, NVUSD students build the foundational skills necessary to become lifelong learners, creators, and leaders in our community.
Low-cost instrument rentals are available for NVUSD students through Napa Valley Education Foundation.
Willow Elementary and our Dual Language Immersion Middle School, Unidos, utilize the Leonard Bernstein Artful Learning model to integrate arts across the curriculum.
