Wellness Services: Insurance
At Napa Valley Unified School District, the well-being of our students is at the heart of our work. As we continue to refine our campus Wellness Centers and mental health supports, we are sharing an important update regarding how these services are funded starting in the 2026–2027 school year through the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI).

WHAT IS CHANGING?
Under new California state laws, private health insurance providers and Medi-Cal are now required to partner directly with school districts.
Given the current fiscal landscape, where school districts receive limited base state funding, this partnership allows NVUSD to receive partial reimbursements for the high-quality socio-emotional and mental health services provided on campus. Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, we will ask families to provide health insurance or Medi-Cal information prior to a student receiving specific wellness services so the district can bill eligible claims.
